Wang Chung: Dance Hall Days

Posted on 15 January 202519 January 2025 by Steven

Highest UK Chart position: 21 (January 14 1984)

You’d have to have been living in a cave in the 80s not to be aware of the song Dance Hall days such was the hype around the song. This earworm seemed to be everywhere for a while.

This song actually hit the charts in January of 1984. but my first encounter with the track came a couple of years earlier when I found the 12″ in a bargain bin, although at that time the band were going under the moniker of Huang Chung. But it wasn’t until it was re-recorded and released under the name Wang Chung that they eventually hit the charts. Again with this song being so ubiquitous I expected to find out that it was nestling towards the top of the charts but this track peaked at 21 in the UK.
