Highest UK Chart position: 87 (September 2 1984)
I’ve recently retrieved my vinyl collection from the recesses of the loft and was thrilled to find this single amongst them. Released in 1984 – the peak of my record buying days – this was far more sophisticated than the usual pop I bought and I’ve long held this up as one of the best singles I ever purchased.
When I check recently to see how high up in the charts this reached I was blown away to discover that it only reached 87. How? How? Seven years later they would crack the UK top 50 with Saturday Night but this was their signature tune.
Judge for yourself. This is sublime.
